The first problem was finding the place. The Sala Vivero is slap bang in the middle of an industrial estate. A massive one at that. No signposts existed. We went to look for the place in the late evening sunshine. The place was deserted. We finally found a petrol station and asked for directions. We soon found the place, a converted industrial unit. There were a small group of Chambao fans already queing up. Drinking San Miguel in the last remaining minutes of Sun.
After a few beers at the hotel, watching Málaga draw with Deportivo on the TV, we headed to Sala Vivero a little before 10pm. We wanted to get there as the place opened to ensure we had no problems getting our tickets. Earlier, we had been to the Carrefour at La Rosaleda to pick up the tickets only to be told that we needed to pick them up at the taquilla at the venue. We hadn't seen a taquilla at the venue...
Sala Vivero.
The place was busy and a large queue had already formed. After being frisked at the entrance (they don't allow you to take any drinks inside) we showed our reservations and a lady quickly found our tickets and showed us inside. The place is a large room with two bars on either side. The front was already packed. We took a place next to the bar and ordered two beers. Two small tubos for 6 euros! That would be the last beer of the evening then.
As 11pm arrived the place was rammed. You couldn't move and we were glad to be propped up by the bar. The only seating area was the balcony area at the rear which was reserved for VIP's. The band appeared from there, taking the walkway towards the stage. Lamari was last and received huge cheers as she made her way to the stage.
Chambao live on stage.
The set started with Lamari sat down, flanked by two guys with Guitars. The guy on the right was playing flamenco style. Lamari's melodic, powerful voice filled the room. Lamari was wonderful, engaging with the crowd and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the evening like us. The band played all their biggest hits, each sounding just like the CD.
Singing from the Walkway.
La Mari.
The evening finished all too soon, at nearly 1:30am. Chambao are appearing in Málaga again this Summer. It would be well worth a visit!
All the band take the applause.
