Farewell Venice

It was almost time to go back home. However, I was a little upset that one of our traditions when visiting Venice was not done. The buying of the cakes (and a swift Spritz) at the café in Guidecca. I wanted to do this on the way back but was stopped by Roberto. They must not be very good cakes!

Instead, we have a new tradition. One thing that has remained a constant is the enjoyment of the Spritz. Well, we have found a great place to enjoy this Venetian delight. The cantinone “Giá Schiavi” near the Squero S. Trovaso. The place does a brisk trade in Spritz as well as selling bottles of wine. The bottles on display and in the backroom are staggering, as is the price of some of them.


Great place for a Spritz.




Cin Cin!

The bar is close to an old picturesque squero a little further down the canal. A Squero is a small dockyard where the traditional Gondola is made, along with other boat repairs. If the bar is packed you can always stand on the canal side and enjoy the view. A bit cold in winter but that doesn’t stop the enjoyment of the pre-lunch Spritz.
