Monica plotting our evening's "entertainment".
The quiz was to celebrate Sandy's 45th birthday. Sandy is the co-owner of the place. Unknown to us, the quiz was based around Sandy's birthday. Questions about 1962. Questions about famous Sandy's. Questions on Scotland, the land of his birth. We were in trouble.
It got worse when we realised that the majority of teams were mob handed. At least 5-6 people per team. Average age in the late 40's, and that's being extremely generous. Not to worry, I spotted a sports round so we would play the joker on that round.
First round 5 out of 10. Second round 4/10. There was a booby prize for last place. The quiz master was impressed with other teams knowledge. "8/10 not bad". "3 teams with 9/10 in that round".
Salvation came in the form of round 3. The first bond film was released in 1962. So they dedicated a round to James Bond. Too late to play the Joker! Well, I was I supposed to know that "Bonding at 45" was going to be about James Bond! 8/10. We had climbed out of the booby prize position.
Then to the picture round. The top 10 from March 2nd, 1962. Name the Artists. Do you know who was No.1 then? No. It was Elvis Presley. I recognised him. No. 2 was Cliff Richard, No. 3 was Chubby Checker. "Lets do the twist again" and a picture of a fat bloke dancing gave it away. 3 out of 3. That's where it ended. We didn't have a clue about the rest of them. 3/10. Back to the booby prize.
Plans were hatched. We couldn't come last. A protest was lodged. The quiz master considered it. I had made 3 strong arguments. The protest was made public. The main thrust of the argument was:
1) There are no questions about Italy.
2) There are no questions about Spain.
3) There are no questions that we know the bloody answers to!

Well pleased with 3rd................from bottom.
Well pleased with 3rd................from bottom.
The protest was rejected with no chance of appeal. We just had to hope that the Sports round, with our joker, would save us. 10 Sports stars all born in 1962. I did surprisingly well. 7/10. Doubled by the joker to 14 points. It was enough. We didn't come last. Job done.
Graham & Pam had a laugh marking our papers.
