TOGS - Sunday 10th March

This was my first game back from injury. It was also the first game for the Torrox Golf Society (TOGS). My playing partners for the day were Chris (24), Roy (20) and John (18). I was warned early that Roy had scored 40 odd points on Friday. 20 handicap? mmmm.

First shot of the day. All the TOGS on the tee to watch the competition. I was first to drive, playing off 13. Disaster! Duffed the t-shot. Luckily it went past the ladies tee. By 10 inches. Next to go John with a decent hit. Bandit Roy with Driver in hand. 300 yards dead centre. Chris hit it a country mile but out of bounds. His next shot was 300 yards dead centre. Couple of bandits here me thinks.

I played terrible. Only 6 points on the front 9. I had to wait until the 4th for my first point. Roy had 10 points after 3 holes. It improved on the back 9 with 18 points for my first TOGS score of 24. Chris won the competition with 36 points.

At least I learnt a few more games. Roy told me about "Camels", "Dolphins" and "Snakes". Hit a ball in the bunker its a camel. The water its a dolphin. 3 putt its a snake. Each animal goes up in value by 20 cents. So if your first to go in a bunker, you are the proud owner of a camel worth 20 cents. When some other lucky soul finds the sand, he gains possession of the camel, now worth 40 cents. And so on. Until the end of the round. If you are unlucky enough to hold the animal at the end of the round, you have to pay each of your playing partners the value of the animal. Could be a very expensive game.

They invented a game for lost balls as well. To keep in the "animal" theme they had to think of a suitable name. The game is called "Woman". Why? Because they have got no balls.

Shot of the day: T shot on 14th (nearest pin hole) to 1 foot. Unfortunately this was by Jose, the club starter and pace of play official. One warm up swing and bang. An 8 iron. Down the shaft. I hit a 6 iron and was short!

14th Hole: Par 3 146 Mts.

My shot of the day: 3-Wood T-shot on 16. Took on the hill and won. Except my ball ended up behind a tree. Was staked so free drop. The very least the shot deserved.

Score: 6pts + 18pts = 24pts (13 h/c). Weather: Sunny, moderate winds.
