El Meson de Julio

Quite simply, the best tapas bar in Nerja. This place opened in 2006 in Calle Cristo, opposite the wh smiffs bookstore. It is a family run business where the brothers run the bar and the cousins work the kitchen. The place was originally their grandparents house.

The bar has the traditional tapas fridge units where you can select your tapas from. The "carne con tomate" is the best in town. Ask Monica, I am an expert on this. All the tapas served are lovely. Other favourites of mine are the "Setas", "Pimientos" y "Croquetes". Another racion we have sampled are the Aubergines in honey. Gnammy.

El Meson de Julio is the home of the "Bote". For 2€ you predict the scores of 2 "La Liga" games shown at the weekend. Typically they are the games featuring Barcelona and Real Madrid. All the lads are big Barcelona fans. If the prize is not won it rolls over to the next week. We were the biggest winners to date, €350. Thanks to a Van Nistlerooy strike. So he's not all that bad. The place has recently re-opened due to work on soundproofing the place. Apparently the neighbours complained about "Some crazy Italian lady screaming at the referee". With the Bote, even Monica gets carried away with il calcio.
