We went to visit the church of Santa Lucia, the resting place of Santa Lucia, the patron saint of the blind. To signify this you will se her holding two eyeballs on a plate in every painting she is depicted.




The Church of Santa Lucia

Santa Lucia was beheaded on the 13th December in 304AD during the persecution of the christians. This day is also celebrated in most Scandinavian countries as "Lucia's Day". The Norse used to celebrate the 13th December as the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night.
